Every year since 2017, the Republic’s Birthday Month kicks off with sharing something from Speaking Daggers – starring Nadine Garner, Michala Banas, Scott Major, Christopher Kirby, Sally McLean, Billy Smedley, Faran Martin and Jaron Natoli. Four years ago today (on the day that happens to also be Creator/Director, Sally McLean’s birthday), we were all on location filming this little gem, the first of our spin offs from the main series.
After the film was completed and launched at the Australian Museum of the Moving Image (ACMI), it went on to be officially selected for over 20 film festivals, including landing in the prestigious St Kilda Film Festival’s Top 100 Australian films, won three international festival awards and was awarded a “Highly Commended Finalist” nod by Jury President of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s Film Festival, Sir Kenneth Branagh.
For a short film shot in one day on limited funds, it punched well above it’s weight and we are so proud of what it achieved.
We are also so thankful for our amazing cast and crew who make the magic happen. We couldn’t do it without you!
To celebrate Speaking Daggers’ 4th Birthday, and as it has never been released to the public (other than at festivals), we are making it available to view for a limited time. You can find out more about how to see it here: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/speakingdaggers.
Enjoy!
